Smart Defrag offers a few extras, including a scheduler so you can set it up to only defrag during downtime on your computer. You can set it to run scans on bootup or even have the app shut down your computer when it’s done defragging selected hard drives or partitions.

It’s important to note that Smart Defrag is not as essential for those running Windows 7 because the OS defrags continually on it’s own. But if you run external drives connected to a Windows 7 computer, this utility will still come in handy for keeping them running smoothly.

Overall, if you want a quick and solid defrag utility to make your computer run more smoothly, with added options for scheduling and other extras, you should definitely download this program. Both beginner and advanced users will have no trouble operating this solid utility.

Users type through each lesson and are then shown their scores on speed, accuracy, and arrhythmic input. The main problem with the interface is that experienced typists tend to scan ahead in the text they’re typing from, focusing on words or phrases rather than individual letters. Rapid Typing Tutor allows users to see no more than a few characters ahead. And since the speed of the scroll depends on the speed of the typist, those who are already fairly quick may find that the blur of text flying across the screen is hard to process visually. Users who are just getting familiar with the keyboard layout likely won’t be bothered by this, but they may grow increasingly frustrated as their speed increases.

In general the interface could be more intuitive, but most users should be able to figure it out. Users can create lessons, but it doesn’t seem possible to cut and paste text from elsewhere into a new lesson, which is disappointing. Installation and uninstallation are trouble-free. For free software without limitations, this program is a boon to aspiring typists. More advanced keyboardists may wish to look elsewhere.

Lock is a free program which sits in your system tray of your Windows desktop. When the icon is clicked your desktop is hidden and locked with a small customizable password window. The password window can be a specified color of can be set to random. The window can also be set to randomly travel around the screen. To change any setting, as well as quit the tray icon and change your password: right click on the tray icon and click on ‘Admin’. The password is blank by default.

We love jigsaw puzzles, but we can’t say we’d ever tried playing them on our computer before. It seemed like a good idea–no chances for our cat to abscond with our puzzles pieces–but we weren’t sure how well an electronic version would really replicate the experience of completing a puzzle in real life. As it turns out, Everyday Jigsaw replicates that experience just fine.

The program’s interface is attractive and easy to navigate. The program comes with seven free puzzles, and we quickly found ourselves sucked in once we started on one. Everyday Jigsaw does a good job of allowing you to manipulate the pieces as you would in real life; you can sort pieces into two separate “pockets,” making it easy to separate edges from interior pieces or to group different colors together. You can also select and drag multiple pieces, and right-clicking scatters loose pieces. The only thing that wasn’t particularly lifelike was that all of the pieces were already correctly oriented and stayed that way, meaning that you never have to worry about rotating them. We can’t say that particularly bothered us.

In addition to the seven games that Everyday Jigsaw comes with, the program also gives you access to a huge treasury of other puzzles that can be downloaded for a fee. There’s also a new puzzle made available every day–hence the program’s name–and you can get access to these by paying a reasonable monthly subscription fee. For those on a budget, there’s a free puzzle made available every Friday. Everyday Jigsaw doesn’t offer a whole lot for casual puzzlers who want something for free, but those who are serious about jigsaw puzzles and willing to pay for them will find that it doesn’t get much better than Everyday Jigsaw.
